Things were looking really good early on. Woody laid down a heavy pace on the first climb. Larry came around after the top and pushed things even harder, stringing out the field single file. Meanwhile I was sitting comfortably 4th wheel, playing around, opening up gaps and trying to hurt people behind me. Woody and Larry continued to work well throughout the next few laps. When things started to settle down a little. I started putting in attacks. It was easy to get a large gap, but not easy to get people to work and stay away. Eventually, things started really falling apart for us. The field didn't seem to bet getting tired. In the later stages of the race we often found ourselves in the uncomfortable position of watching breaks go up the road with no one in the team able to cover. Larry and Woody continued to do what they could and helped out with some of the chasing. I was feeling bad by now and could do little to help. We were often at the mercy of the pack. Luckily, the other teams were racing stupid and chasing each other down.

The finish came down to a big charge up the hill. We flew up the bottom part of the climb - 22mph+. I was sitting perfectly 5th wheel, tucked in the line, not working too hard. As we hit the steep cut in the climb, I moved up the left side. But as we cleared the top of the climb my legs didn't have what I needed. I could only cling onto the back of the surge for the line. I gave 100%, but got nowhere and ended up 9th.

Really nice course, well run, good payout, good field. I was not on top of things today and I knew it going into the race. One effective break and blocking from a couple of the locals was enough to fry what little we had left as a team. I was happy to finish with the field with the cold I'm fighting.

Either way it's a great course and a two hour drive. We could do damage if we showed up in force for this one. As it was the locals had the advantage today.

8:30 AM races in the Cleveland area are too far away to drive to in the morning! I sure think I would have done better if I didn't have to get out of bed at 3:30 AM...
