The women's field was again relatively small (11 in all) with riders representing a variety of teams including Team Dayton, Revolution, Indy Hand Center, UPS, Montgomery Cyclery and a few others that I can't remember offhand. The course was flat and contained 4 corners (left-hand turns with 3rd one less than 90 degrees) and one short bumpy section of road between corners 2 and 3. There was definitely wind on the backstretch. Unlike what happened at the Newmark and Renaissance crits, a very effective attack occurred about half to two-thirds of the way through the 40 min + 2 lap race resulting in a clean break by 6 riders (congratulations to Heather from Indianapolis!), and the average speed was significantly greater (close to 21 mph). Despite my best effort to try to bridge up to the breakaway group, they rapidly gained ground. I was among three riders left behind which also included Karen from Revolution and Kristen from Montgomery Cyclery. We rode together for the remainder of the race and eventually passed the two riders that were lapped. Our 7th through 9th placings came down to a sprint finish. Thanks to Dan from Indiana for organizing a great race!
