My old stomping grounds. I grew up in Western PA and went to school at Penn State Beaver for two years, and so I was happy to be back visiting and do this race. Special thanks to my family members of Chris, Audria, Paul, Stephen and John for coming out and watching the race and cheering me on and taking lots of photos. The many chicanes, fast pace, and awesome announcer made for a pretty spectator friendly race.

Sometimes you are part of the team that comes to the race with 15 guys and sometimes you have to race against that team. It was the latter case today and GPOA controlled the race from the start, sending two guys off the front on the get go and sitting on every other break attempt that went up the road. So that (and the lack of hills!) made the race a bit frustrating. It was a fast and fun race though, well run, exciting, and with beautiful weather. The field was big as you can see from the pictures, at least 50 guys.

When the last lap came around (it was a 50 mile race) I was pretty aggressive to maintain position near behind the GPOA train and managed to eke out 5th place in the field sprint, 9th place overall.

Sprinting.

On Memorial day I did a 100 mile ride from downtown Pittsburgh to West Virginia and back with some of the Kraynick's boys. The rollers and hills were a great change of scenery from central Ohio. It rained for part of the ride though and on the way back, coming around a corner onto grooved concrete two guys went down. Peter from Kraynicks banged up his hip and had to be taken to the hospital . . . hope you have a speedy recovery Pete.

Another great race, good weekend in spite of all the driving.
